Head of the task force spearheading the establishment of Bunyoro University Prof. Samuel Kyamanywa and other leaders in the Bunyoro region are excited by an offer of free land by one of the kingdom's subjects.

Speaking on phone interviews on Friday Prof. Kyamanywa commended former Makerere University lecturer Dr Henry Wamani, for donating over 100 acres towards the establishment of the university.

The task force's excitement followed a public announcement by Wamani, a resident of Buhimba town council in Kikuube district indicating how his family had donated over 100 acres for the proposed construction of Bunyoro University.

The land is situated in Buhimba East cell-Mabaale village in Buhimba east ward Buhimba town council.

Wamani eased the search when he announced that he was ready to offer his freehold title with 100 acres free of incumbrances.

Kyamanywa confirmed that Wamani had earlier written to the task force showing interest in donating the land.

“The political leadership offered us land at Bulera Teacher’s College in Hoima city and it is where we are planning to start from, but the land at Bulera is not enough for expansion. So, we shall need more land near Hoima where we can expand from. Wamani offered us this land only that there is something small about the compensation of his trees in the land,” he said.

Kyamanywa added that the availability of this land in Buhimba town council is a big opportunity since this land is near Hoima city and is suitable for expansion and underscored a need for the government to come in and help the task force to compensate Wamani for the trees to be able to start utilizing the land.

Speaking after touring the land on Thursday, Kikuube Resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime commended Wamani for the donation describing him as a patriot who focuses on development.

“This is a big step toward the establishment of the long-awaited Bunyoro University. As a representative of the President, I have seen the land, interacted with the neighbors, and confirmed that the land belongs to Wamani. So, I'm happy that this land has no conflicts. My role now is to write to the President, the ministry of education, the minister for the presidency, and the task force informing them about the availability of the land,” Tumusiime said.
