MBARARA — The bishop of Ankole diocese, Rt. Rev. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa has urged the Ministry of Education and Sports to design a strategy that addresses the problem of performance imbalances in schools.

“Why should you get 5 points and someone else gets 20, at least you can get 15 or at worst 14, but the moment you see 5-4 points it means a lot of time has been wasted," he stated on Monday while delivering a sermon at the dedication service of S.1 and S.5 students of Mbarara High School held at St. James Cathedral-Ruharo.

Bishop Mwesigwa attributed the challenge to most schools and students wasting a lot of time in leisure.

“I urge the youth not to waste a lot of time in leisure. There is a lot of time wasted in leisure for many young boys; they don’t know how to balance books and leisure,” Bishop added.

He thanked Mbarara High School for organising a dedication service, noting that such initiatives help to orient students to understand why they have come to a given school, and understand the history of that school, and what they need in order to succeed and go far.

Ham Ahimbisibwe, head teacher of Mbarara High School, thanked Bishop Mwesigwa for touching the lives of young people through education.

Rev. Abraham Ahabwe urged young people to make use of the facilities at their disposal in the schools where they are.

He also commended Bishop Mwesigwa for his passion to promote education.
