Toro Kingdom has officially announced the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, plunging the kingdom into mourning and raising questions about the future of the throne.
The announcement was made on August 28, 2026, at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City by the kingdom's head of clans, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, during a meeting attended by kingdom officials, clan leaders and other stakeholders.

An emotional Kamurasi, speaking through tears, confirmed that the Omukama had died in the United States, ending days of speculation and conflicting reports about his health.
He urged the people of Tooro to remain calm and entrust the situation to God, saying the kingdom had been deeply affected by the circumstances surrounding the king's illness and death.
Kamurasi acknowledged widespread discussion on social media about the Omukama's health, but said official communication had been limited because the public had not been informed that the king was ill.
“It was so bad that people were not informed that he was sick. They were only told that he had gone for further studies,” he said.
“We shall observe the period of mourning for nine days. We shall be here for nine days as we prepare to bury the king,” he said.
Kamurasi said his office would take charge of all official communication regarding burial arrangements and other kingdom matters during the mourning period, warning the public against relying on unofficial statements and social media reports.
“The office of Omusuuga will keep informing you about the arrangements,” he said.
He also formally communicated the death of the Omukama to President Yoweri Museveni, saying the kingdom was notifying the Head of State of the loss.
Calling for discipline and restraint, Kamurasi directed that all statements and activities relating to the kingdom and the funeral arrangements should be channelled through the office of the Omusuuga.
“For anyone to say or do anything, it must pass through the office of Omusuuga. We don't want these things of words coming from Kampala,” he said.
