KAMPALA - Members of Parliament on Wednesday paid glowing tribute to Kalangala District Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli.

Nakimuli passed away on Sunday afternoon at Alexandra Medical Centre in Kampala after she had undergone surgery.

A sombre mood hung over Parliament as the casket containing the remains of the late legislator lay in state. Family, Members of Parliament, and staff were present to pay their last respects to the late legislator.

Speaker Anita Among, her deputy Thomas Tayebwa, Leader of Opposition from the National Unity Platform (NUP) party where the deceased subscribed, several ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs), friends, and family members paid their last respects and signed the condolence book.

Nakimuli's father, and an Orthodox priest Rev. Fr. Christopher Walusimbi, was also in attendance alongside the deceased's daughter, with the Orthodox Church describing the deceased as a devoted member of the church, whose life was marked by unwavering faith, strong moral conviction and dedicated service to both God and humanity.

She served as the shadow minister for information, and her death paves the way for a by-election in the district.

After Parliament special seating and paying tributes to the deceased, the body is to be moved to NUP party Headquarters at Makerere Kavule, and later an official vigil at her family residence in Namungoona in Kampala district.

A funeral service is slated for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Namungoona Orthodox Church in Kampala, where the late was a member, and immediately after the service, the body will be transported to the late's ancestral home in Luwero district for burial on the same day.
