The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has joined the family of Private Secretary to the President in charge of Education and Skilling Jimmy Nambiro in mourning his mother.

The ruling party has described Maama Jane Were Wakobe as a matriarch whose legacy of nurturing leaders will forever remain etched in the nation's history.

In a condolence message delivered on February 14, 2026, NRM secretary general Richard Todwong extended the political party's deepest sympathies to the family and presented a contribution of shillings five million towards funeral expenses.

"It is with profound sadness that we learnt of the passing of our beloved Maama Jane Were Wakobe. She was a great pillar to the Nation as she brought into being and nurtured her offspring to become valuable leaders in the service of our Country," reads the statement in part.

Todwong describes the late Wakobe as "a matriarch and an integral part" of the family, whose passing has taken away "a fountain of wisdom." He encourages the bereaved family to find comfort in the legacy she left behind.

 'A life positively lived'

Speaking during the funeral, Nambiro described her as a woman with a big heart whose positive influence touched generations.

In a special vote of thanks, Nambiro, who is a former Butaleja Resident District Commissioner and ex-Mbale RCC, commended State House Comptroller Jane Barekye for clearing the medical bills of his deceased mother.

"From my side as a son and a child of the late, and on behalf of the family, we really bless the Lord for the life that he gave our mother to live and to nurture us, the eight of us that she brought into this world," Nambiro said.

He revealed that the late matriarch also leaves behind 53 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

"We are grateful to God, but most importantly grateful for a life lived, a positive life lived. Our mother lived a positive life, and she taught us to work hard. She taught us to respect people. She taught us to fear God and do the things that we shall live to remember," he recounted.

"Our mother had a big heart. Nobody could come home without having something to eat, even a cup of water. She could say at least a cup of water."

He added that his mother lived peacefully with everyone in the community, which explained the massive outpouring of support during her send-off.

"We saw our mother raising us up, not quarrelling with anybody in the village. This is even partly why people came from all walks of life to come and celebrate her send-off."

Who attended

The funeral ceremony was held in Bugangu Village, Butaleja district, on February 14, 2026. The service, which began at noon, attracted a who's who of Ugandan politics and leadership.

Dignitaries in attendance, included defence state minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, State House officials, NRM director of communications  Emmanuel Dombo Lumala, Bunyole Cultural Institution premier Apollo Lyadda and Tieng Adhola second deputy premier John Febien Olweny.

In a show of unity that transcended party lines, even rival political parties sent representatives. Joseph Othieno, a staunch member of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), attended to offer his condolences.

The event was also graced by several RDCs and City Commissioners (RCCs), led by Commissioner Richard Kasozi.
