WAKISO - President Yoweri Museveni has directed that former Bundibugyo Member of Parliament Dr William Sikyewunda be accorded an official burial following his recent death.
Sikyewunda, who represented Bundibugyo in Parliament from 1980 to 1985, died earlier this week. His death was announced by A-Plus Funeral Management on behalf of his family in Entebbe-Kiwafu, Wakiso district, on Monday (July 27).
The cause of death was not disclosed.
Sikyewunda also served as Bundibugyo district health officer, head of the Public Health Department at Kampala International University, a lecturer at Dar es Salaam College, and a consultant lecturer at Mountains of the Moon University.
The Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, announced on Tuesday via X, formerly Twitter, that President Museveni had directed that the former legislator be accorded an official burial.
An official burial means the Government will meet the burial expenses and accord the former public health medicine specialist a gun salute.
“Accordingly, the N.O.C [national organising committee] is meeting with the family of the deceased to organise a befitting send-off. Condolences to the family, friends, people of Rwenzururu and Ugandans at large," she wrote.
The minister also prayed for Sikyewunda's soul to rest in eternal peace.
Sikyewunda will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Hakitengya, Bundibugyo district, on July 29, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
