KABERAMAIDO - Saulo Nyekorach, father of Dr Kenneth Omona, Minister for Northern Uganda, was on Saturday, September 27, buried at Majengo Cell in Kaberamaido Town Council, in Kaberamaido district.
Aged 81, Nyekorach succumbed to a stroke on September 18, at Kampala Hospital in Kampala City.
His burial at the family graveyard preceded a funeral procession around the vast family compound led by a cultural dancing troupe.
According to the bereaved family, the renowned businessman born on August 15, 1944, was: brave, strict, hardworking and committed, devoted father.
Addressing mourners at the family home, Edwin Ocaya, the lastborn, reported that his father had previously suffered three major attacks of stroke.
Mourners included: Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, Richard Todwong (Secretary General of NRM) and Kumam Cultural leader Papa Won Ateker Raphael Otaya.
Other dignitaries at the funeral were: Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga (State Minister for ICT & National Guidance), Lillian Aber (State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness & Refugees), Helen Adoa (minister of state for fisheries), Evelyn Anite (State Minister for Investment & Privatisation), Lt Gen. Samuel Okiding, the Deputy CDF of the Peoples' Defence Forces plus several members of parliament.
Nyekorach is survived by his second wife, Selina Atolo and seven children: Dr Omona, Ocaya, Hellen Acayo, George Dongo Albrigo, Hellen Akidi, Rose Arayo and Lydia Aol.
Dr Omona described his father as a jolly man who loved the traditional way of life and was a real man and elder in the community.
The state minister who commended President Yoweri Museveni for the support to the bereaved family described his father as a peace-loving Ugandan who fought for peace and justice, and equality.
The Chief Justice of Uganda, Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo, hailed Nyekorach's legacy, whom he described was an exemplary father.
"He was an educationist who ensured that his children attended good schools, including Dr Omona, who is a patriot and proud of his Acoli heritage", said the CJ.
The UPDF Reserved Forces Commander, Lt Gen. Charles Otema Awany, described the late Mzee Nyekorach as a true leader who supported the government in ensuring peace, harmony and development in Acholi and northern Uganda.
Bishop emeritus of the Anglican diocese of Soroti, Charles Bernard Ebitu Obaikol, asked mourners to emulate Nyeko, saying that before God, eternal life was attainable with good deeds and hard work.
