President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has paid tribute to the late Derri Erupu, fondly known as Domingo, who served as Minister of Security in the Kumam Cultural Heritage (KUCH).
The condolence message was delivered by the NRM vice chairperson for eastern Uganda, Mike Mukula, during Erupu’s burial ceremony held on April 12, 2025, at his ancestral home in Atapar village, Lwala parish, Otuboi subcounty, Kalaki district.
In his message, the President praised Erupu’s legacy as a dedicated farmer, entrepreneur, and steadfast supporter of the National Resistance Movement.
He specifically lauded Erupu for promoting the 4-acre model farming system in the former Kaberamaido district, now part of Kalaki—a strategy that improved household productivity and demonstrated his commitment to agricultural transformation.
Erupu was also a well-known figure in Soroti city, where he operated the popular business, Jose Martines.
His entrepreneurial spirit and strong social values earned him wide respect—not just as a businessman but also as a unifier of the Kumam-speaking people.
Raphael Otaya Papa, the cultural leader of the Kumam (Papa Won Ateker Me Kumam), commended Erupu for advancing unity and fostering a spirit of humanity both within and beyond the Kumam community.
During the funeral service, the Vicar General of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Msgr Robert Ecogu, urged the Kumam people to shun division and follow Erupu’s example of cooperation and peace.
Erupu passed away on April 3, 2025, at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
His legacy—spanning entrepreneurship, cultural leadership, and agricultural advocacy—continues to inspire many across the Teso and Kumam sub-regions.
