Deputy land forces commander Takirwa was selfless, distinguished leader — Minister Muhoozi
Takirwa, according to Muhoozi, has left a good legacy, including a durable impact on society and a monumental contribution to the country.

Internal affairs minister Gen. David Muhoozi has eulogised the deceased UPDF land forces deputy commander Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa as having been selfless, amiable, calm, humorous, respectful to colleagues and was a distinguished leader.
Muhozi's eulogy was delivered on his behalf by ministry permanent secretary Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu before mourners from different parts of the country on February 12, 2026, at Bugarama Sayuni village in Bwizibwera-Rutoma town council, Kashari South in Mbarara district. This was during Takirwa's burial ceremony.
Takirwa, who is survived by his widow, Bridget Ahumuza and five children, passed on February 7, 2026, at the UPDF National Referral Hospital in Mbuya, following complications arising from stroke.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Kainerugaba Muhoozi, who was represented by his deputy Lt Gen Sam Okiding, extended sympathy and condolences to the family, relatives and friends and informed mourners that Takirwa’s death was natural.
He added that late Takirwa has been a natural leader, a committed leader, resilient, and admired by seniors and juniors.
“Takirwa leaves a legacy of sacrifice, professionalism, reality and service to the nation; his passing is a sad moment for all of us who worked with him, the entire military fraternity,” Muhoozi stated in the speech.
Okiding described Takirwa as having been a humble person, loving and most importantly, he knew how to manage risks during battle. UPDF, as an institution, in addition to footing burial expenses, also contributed sh5 million to support the family.
Former ethics minister Miria Matembe said Takirwa has left behind the legacy of integrity and hard work.

Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba, who was represented by head of counterterrorism AIGP David Waswa, sympathised with the UPDF fraternity and the country, describing the late as a distinguished patriot and a guarantee soldier who dedicated over three decades of his selfless service to the security of his country and the region.
Church leaders hail Takirwa
Ankole bishop Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa, in a message delivered on his behalf by the Rev. Can. Bobs Nathan Mwesigwa, urged all believers to remain committed to God, noting that God is their refuge and strength and very present to help them in trouble.
North West Ankole bishop Amos Magezi hailed the Takirwa family for supporting the Church and thanked UPDF for demystifying the fear Ugandans had of soldiers.
The burial was attended by high-ranking army officers, including National Enterprise Corporation managing director James Mugira, Lt. Gen. Muhanga Kayanja, Maj. Gen. Paul Muhanguzi, Maj Gen. Henry Matsiko and Maj. Gen. James Kinalwa.
