Archbishop Kaziimba mourns Toro King Oyo
Kaziimba urged the people of Toro to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in God as they mourn their king.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has extended condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Toro kingdom following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
King Oyo died on August 27, 2026, in the United States, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
Kaziimba conveyed his condolences on Friday, August 28, during a telephone call with the Bishop of Ruwenzori Diocese, Reuben Kisembo.
“On behalf of the Church of Uganda and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Toro Kingdom, Ruwenzori Diocese and the entire body of Christ during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all,” Kaziimba said in a message.

He urged the people of Toro to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in God as they mourn their king.
“As we mourn, we take comfort in the words of St Paul: ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.’ — 2 Timothy 4:7,” Kaziimba said.
King Oyo, who ascended to the throne at the age of three in 1995, became one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs. His death marks the end of a 31-year reign over the Toro kingdom.
Kaziimba was scheduled to travel to Kumi Diocese in eastern Uganda on Friday as part of his farewell visits ahead of his retirement as Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
