All set for Gen Moses Ali's burial in Adjumani

All is set in Adjumani district for Wednesday's burial ceremony for the late veteran Ugandan politician, Gen. (rtd) Moses Ali.

The Adjumani West County MP and former Second Deputy Prime Minister, whose death last Saturday at the 87 set in motion an outpouring of tributes across the country and beyond, will be laid to rest at Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abaciriku village in Biyaya parish.

Before the interment, a special council sitting will be held at Paridi Stadium in honour of his distinguished service to the nation.

On Tuesday, Ali was eulogized by President Yoweri Museveni, ministers and Members of Parliament during a special parliamentary sitting in Kampala.

Later in the day, his body was airlifted from Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and landed at Openzinzi Airfield in Adjumani.

The son of the soil was received home in Adjumani town council by thousands of mourners, including students and government officials, amid a sombre mood.

The casket carrying Ali's body was accompanied by family members led by works and transport state minister Siraj Musa Ali, together with senior military (UPDF) generals.

Adjumani district council chairperson Charles Akuku Anzo led the official reception and described the late veteran politician as a distinguished leader whose contribution to the district and the country will be remembered.

Earlier on Tuesday in Kampala, President Museveni described Ali, who was a former rebel leader, as a lover of freedom, who, despite working in Amin's government, quietly opposed the killing of people by the then-president, which he later paid for by being suspended from the army and later dismissed from government at the time.

Museveni also described Ali as a champion of development. 

He said Ali never abandoned his home region even after becoming one of Uganda's most senior government officials.
