Trading activity at the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) picked up pace in the week ending July 17, with turnover rising to sh759m ($205,797), up from sh554m ($150,797) recorded the previous week.
Eight counters traded during the week, with a total of 10,399,742 shares changing hands, according to a weekly market report by Crested Capital.
Stanbic Holding exchanged shares worth sh287m ($77,960) from a volume of 3,590,812. Umeme Limited followed with sh220m ($59,740) from 3,498,480 shares, while Bank of Baroda dealt sh185.2m ($50,207) from 3,086,950 shares.
MTN Uganda traded sh52.8m ($14,325) from 124,340 shares. Airtel Uganda moved sh9.1m ($2,487) from 53,960 shares, dfcu Limited exchanged sh3.3m ($913) from 10,000 shares, Quality Chemical Industries Limited traded sh411,400 ($112) from 2,600 shares, and NIC Holdings dealt sh198,850 ($54) from 32,600 shares.
On price movements, NIC led the gainers, appreciating by 10.91% to close at sh6.10. Airtel added 2.36% to close at sh170.94, while Quality Chemical Industries Limited rose by 0.63% to sh159.
MTN gained 0.37% to sh426.80, and dfcu was up 0.30% to sh337. Stanbic was the only loser in the week, dropping 0.62% to sh80.
Among the cross-listed counters, Centum Investments was down 1.00% to sh417.27, East African Breweries Limited fell by 0.31% to sh7,595.14, Kenya Airways dropped 3.72% to sh162.33, and KCB Group declined 1.50% to sh2,286.40.
Equity Group grew by 1.52% to sh2,479.32, Nation Media Group rose 1.15% to sh364.40, and Jubilee Holdings increased 0.68% to sh10,924.71.
The USE All Share Index gained 0.33% to close at 2149.06, while the local companies index appreciated by 0.73% to 201.56.
