KAMPALA - Trading activity on the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) picked up last week with total turnover rising to sh275.48m from sh34.78m the previous week. Only eight counters traded during the week.
MTN Uganda led the activity, moving sh134.43m in trades according to market report from Crested Capital. Bank of Baroda Uganda followed with sh58.23m in turnover while Stanbic Holdings came third with sh51.56m.
Quality Chemicals Industries (QCIL) registered trades worth sh19.6m. Airtel Uganda and Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) exchanged sh8.43m and sh3.14m, respectively. dfcu Limited and NIC Holdings traded sh77,312 and sh2,500.
On share price movement, the Bank of Baroda was the week’s biggest gainer, climbing 13.5% to sh40. dfcu edged up 0.79% to sh256, QCIL added 2.62% to close at sh98 and Stanbic gained 2% to sh51.
Airtel Uganda lost 0.04% to sh79.88, while MTN dropped 1.26% to close at sh256.72. Other local counters, including NVL (sh152), Umeme (sh415), NIC (sh5.1), BATU (sh15,000) and UCL (sh6.5) were unchanged.
Among cross-listed stocks, Centum Investments shed 3.25% to sh316.58, East African Breweries Limited dipped 0.48% to sh5,505.40, and Equity Bank Limited inched up 0.14% to sh1,388.50.
Jubilee Holdings Limited rose 1.64% to sh6,623.15, Kenya Airways declined 1.37% to sh144.4, and KCB Group rallied 5.27% to sh1,339.9 by the end of the week.
