Wamala becomes new PRAU president

KAMPALA - Tina Wamala has been elected president of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU).

The election was during the association's 45th general meeting, which took place on Saturday (February 25) at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala.

Wamala, who is the former Multichoice publicist, replaces Stephen Mwanga, who served since 2020 to last year. 

By the time of her election, Wamala, who also speaks for the British High Commission in Uganda, was the body’s vice-president.

PRAU is the umbrella body of all private and public relations (PR) professionals, communication specialists, brand managers, mass communication and other related disciplines striving to promote PR excellence in Uganda.

PRAU was founded in 1976 as a membership-based professional body of PR practitioners in Uganda.

The association is affiliated with regional and global bodies such as the East African Public Relations Association (EAPRA), the African Public Relations Association (APRA) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

 PRAU, which has a membership of over 400 members in Uganda, is affiliated with other regional and global public relations bodies such as the Eastern African Public Relations Association (EAPRA), the Africa Public Relations Associations (APRA) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

The Association is organised and structured under four organs: The AGM (annual general assembly) , the governing council (GC), working committees and an independent electoral commission.

The patron of PRAU is usually the information minister of Uganda's cabinet. The current one is Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.

The AGM is the supreme organ of the association while the governing council is the top management organ, which comprises: the president, vice-president, secretary general, treasurer, deputy secretary general, director, programmes, director, public relations affairs, director, discipline and two student representatives.
