In a move aimed at strengthening the skills of its staff and improving the quality of service delivered to customers across the country, Vivo Energy has unveiled Mobile Training Academies.
The initiative was launched on Tuesday at Shell Lugogo as part of the company’s efforts to take training closer to employees and ensure that teams across its operations have access to continuous skills development.
The Mobile Training Academies are designed to bring practical training directly to service stations, allowing employees to acquire and refresh skills without having to leave their workplaces for extended periods.
Speaking at the launch, Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President (East) of Vivo Energy Group, highlighted the strategic impact, adding that it’s intended to support a culture of continuous learning while strengthening operational standards across the company’s network.
"Infrastructure, high-quality fuels, and premium lubricants build our presence across East Africa, but our people build our brand. What the Uganda team has achieved sets a new industry benchmark for how commercial efficiency and human empowerment can go hand in hand to deliver uniform excellence without interrupting daily business,” Paulsen noted.
He added that investing in employee development is important in maintaining consistent service standards, particularly in an industry where customer experience, safety and operational efficiency are critical.
The initiative builds on a strong legacy of workforce development. In 2020, Vivo Energy Uganda launched the country’s first-ever Retail Academy. The academy later relocated to Shell Kitende, featuring e-learning tools, classrooms, and live forecourt training.
The initiative is also expected to make training more accessible to staff working in different parts of the country, while reducing the logistical challenges associated with centralised training programmes.
“Our people drive the exceptional experiences we deliver every day. Innovation is about finding better ways to empower people. 'Learning on Wheels' reflects our commitment to making high-quality training accessible to everyone, ensuring that every retail team member and mechanic can learn, grow, and succeed wherever they operate,” Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, emphasised.
The Mobile Training Academies are expected to provide a platform through which Vivo Energy Uganda can continuously develop its workforce while taking quality and service standards closer to its frontline teams.
