The Uganda Cricket Women's National team - the Victoria Pearls bowed out of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi after another heavy defeat against Sri Lanka in their last Group A game at Tolerance Cricket Oval.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first setting 154/4 in 20 overs for Uganda to chase.

Victoria Pearls' charges retired at 87 – all out in 19.2 overs giving Sri Lanka a 67-run win.

Proscovia Alako who did not have a good start in the tournament managed to put up a commendable score of 36 off 32.

However, Uganda had come into this game with hopes shattered after losing to Thailand on Monday by 9 wickets.

Victoria Pearls captain Janet Mbabazi believes that her side has picked positives from the tournament.

“We have not performed to our best in the tournament, but a lot has been learned, and we shall go back home to collect the mistakes,” Mbabazi said.

Uganda struggled with the bat throughout the tournament and the assistant head coach Deus Muhumuza called the Uganda Cricket Association to improve on the women’s national league.

“We struggled with the bat in all the games, but this can only be sorted out with UCA improving on the status of the women’s league in the tournament,” Muhumuza stated.

Victoria Pearls managed to collect only one win in the tournament against the USA where they won by 8 wickets and lost three.

This performance was nothing less than replicating the one of 2018 in the Netherlands when Uganda first appeared in the global qualifier.

Immaculate Nakisuyi was Uganda’s best batter with 82 runs from 93 balls faced in total.

Sri Lanka from Group A and Ireland from Group B are the two teams that have confirmed semifinal qualification with six points each on top and will be joined by the two teams that will settle for the second position from each group.

The two finalists will guarantee qualification for this year’s ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup.
