MADRID - Uganda’s fresh fruit and vegetable produce is set to claim its place on the global stage with its first-ever participation at Fruit Attraction 2025, the world’s largest exhibition of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Taking place from September 30 to October 2, 2025, in Madrid, Spain, the event acts as a major platform and meeting point for fruit and vegetable operators to create solid business relationships and opens up new opportunities in new markets.

The country’s space at the prestigious event was successfully booked by the Ugandan diaspora in Europe, who later returned home to rally all stakeholders from both the Government and the private sector to join this historic mission.

The strategic objectives upon which Uganda’s participation is based include fostering market access by connecting Ugandan farmers, exporters and agribusinesses with premium European buyers, nurturing technology transfer and exchange for the participants through learning modern farming and post-harvest technologies to boost quality and productivity.

Uganda’s participation is aimed at attracting European investments to secure capital, partnerships and infrastructure for Uganda’s agricultural transformation.

The diaspora affairs unit in the Office of the President, alongside the relevant government ministries, departments and agencies, will officially flag off Uganda’s journey to Madrid in a ceremony next Wednesday in Kampala at the Office of the President premises.

This event will bring together ministers, industry leaders, farmer co-operatives, exporters and international partners who will dive deeper into the goals of the forthcoming Fruit Attraction expo and devise ways to put up a patriotic front as a country during the expo.

Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs Abbey Walusimbi has commended the Ugandan diaspora members for always looking out for opportunities to transform and make the country shine globally.

Walusimbi further called upon both the Government and private sector players — who intend to attend the Fruit Attraction expo — to register on time through the provided event co-ordinators.

Exhibitors are required to register with $2,800 (about shillings 9.9 million), which caters for a flight to Madrid, four nights of hotel accommodation, premium exhibition space, and visa handling services.
