The Uganda Embassy in Rome has commended the Government of Uganda for its sustained economic growth and stability, citing improvements in inflation control, job creation and national security.

In a statement issued by the office of Ambassador Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, the Embassy states that despite various challenges, the Government has maintained peace across the country, expanded employment opportunities, and improved the overall socio-economic conditions of Ugandans.

“The Government has managed to contain inflation over the decades, with food prices remaining relatively stable. Youth skilling centres have been established, and more than 82,000 young people have graduated from the 19 Presidential Industrial Hubs. By December 2025, the inflation rate stood at 3.1 per cent, which is a significant and commendable achievement,” the statement reads.

According to the Central Bank, inflation in 2025 remained stable, largely driven by favourable movements in food crop prices and stability in the services sector. The Bank attributed this performance to consistent agricultural supply and controlled service costs, which eased price pressures and supported household purchasing power.

In a statement dated January 19, 2026, the Embassy further observes that, contrary to widespread perceptions of high youth unemployment, the Government has taken deliberate steps to absorb young people through initiatives such as youth skilling centres.

The youth skilling centres aim to equip young Ugandans with practical skills that enhance employability and promote self-reliance.

The Embassy also highlights the impact of government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, noting that many Ugandans have leveraged these initiatives to improve household incomes and livelihoods through enterprise development and financial inclusion.

On security, the Embassy sayssustained peace has created a stable environment that supports development, investment, and improved service delivery across the country.

“These achievements should not be taken for granted. Sustaining economic stability, controlling inflation, creating employment opportunities, and maintaining peace in a complex regional and global environment requires deliberate policy choices, strong leadership, and institutional commitment,” the statement adds.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, the Office of the Ambassador emphasises the need to recognise the progress achieved so far and to engage constructively in efforts aimed at advancing Uganda’s national development.
