Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary/ Secretary to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has held talks with William Popp, the United States Ambassador to Uganda.
The meeting at the ministry's headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday centred on strengthening the bilateral economic relationship.
The ministry revealed that during the engagement, PS Ggoobi, who "hailed the existing bilateral relationship between the two countries," acknowledged the growth in trade between Uganda and the USA.

"The PS/ST and the US Ambassador also discussed modalities for harnessing the available trade and investment opportunities in both countries," reads the ministry's post on social media.
The ministry reported that Ambassador Popp, who led a team of three from the Kampala US mission, assured the PS/ST of US commitment to strengthening trade between the two countries.

Dignitaries at the meeting included Ambassador Adonia Ayebare and Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations, Ambassador Charles Sentongo, Director of Protocol Services and Director of Economic Affairs, Moses Kaggwa.
Uganda-USA trade volumes at a glance
In 2022, the United States exported goods and services worth $218 million to Uganda, while importing $81.6 million worth of goods and services from Uganda, according to the International Trade Administration.
Uganda's main exports to the US are coffee, cocoa beans, and casein, while its main imports from the US are wheat, rice, and aircraft parts, according to the Observatory of Economic Complexity.
According to UBOS reports, the top three countries exporting goods and services to Uganda in 2022 were China ($1.5 billion), the United Arab Emirates ($1.1 billion) and India ($897 million), while the United States exported goods and services worth $218 million.
In 2022, the top three countries importing goods and services from Uganda were: South Sudan ($606 million), Kenya ($594 million), and the Democratic Republic of Congo ($430.6 million), according to UBOS. The United States imported goods and services worth $81.6 million from Uganda during that period.
In 2022, Uganda exported goods worth $10.6 million under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
