SNV and private sector partners will tomorrow (November 14) unveil a plan to invest nearly sh11.8b in businesses offering energy efficient solutions.

According to a statement by SNV, the initiative directly aligns with the government's commitment to fostering affordable and accessible energy-efficient technologies for Ugandans, steering away from traditional energy sources like charcoal.

In May this year, President Museveni issued an executive order which, among others banned the production of and trade in charcoal in Northern Uganda, as part of the efforts to protect the environment.

SNV is collaborating with partners such as Private Sector Foundation and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

“SNV and private sector partners are going to invest sh11.8b in Ugandan businesses offering energy-efficient solutions and services. 52% of this investment will be leveraged from third party financing, including commercial banks,” a statement read in part.

The launch event is scheduled for the inaugural day of Energy Week on November 14, 2023.
