Government has allocated sh166.80 billion for the purchase of vehicles for members of the 12th Parliament as part of the proposed sh84.209 trillion budget for the Financial Year 2026/27.

Parliament currently has 555 Members of Parliament, depending on ex officio positions, with the core statutory number at 529 elected and special interest MPs. Based on the proposed allocation of sh166.80b for MPs’ vehicles, this translates to approximately sh300m per MP.

The allocation was disclosed by finance minister Matia Kasaija during a briefing to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) caucus, chaired by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the budget priorities for the Financial Year 2026/27, delivered on March 27, 2026, at State House Entebbe.

The proposed budget represents an increase of sh11.832 trillion from the originally approved sh72.376 trillion for FY2025/26. Compared to the revised budget of sh80.48 trillion, which included a sh8.104 trillion supplementary, the net increase stands at sh3.729 trillion.

According to Kasaija, the expansion is driven by projected domestic revenues of sh44.5 trillion, expected to increase by sh6.856 trillion through measures implemented by the Uganda Revenue Authority. Government is also projecting sh1.44 trillion in petroleum revenues from anticipated first oil production.

Domestic borrowing is expected to rise by sh593 billion to sh11.97 trillion, while domestic debt refinancing will increase by sh3.94 trillion. Local government revenues are projected to increase by sh12 billion.

On expenditure, government has allocated sh1.38 trillion for counterpart funding to flagship infrastructure projects, sh1.16 trillion for wage enhancements and salary shortfalls, and sh918 billion for road infrastructure works.

The health sector will receive sh556.78 billion, while sh496.3 billion has been set aside for preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Additional allocations include sh267 billion for strategic investments under the Uganda Development Corporation and sh145 billion for operations of Uganda Airlines.
