Pride Bank has moved to strengthen access to digital financial services through a new partnership with Interswitch, as the bank positions itself ahead of the Bank of Uganda’s planned 2027 cash limit directive.
The partnership was launched in Kampala on Tuesday and is expected to expand customers’ access to digital payment and financial services, according to the bank.
Speaking at the launch, Veronica Namagembe, the Managing Director of Pride Bank, said the partnership represents the Bank’s continued commitment to responding to the changing needs of its customers and bringing financial services closer to the communities it serves.
“As a bank, we believe banking should fit into the lives of our customers rather than requiring our customers to organise their lives around banking. This partnership allows us to extend our reach, give our customers greater choice and make everyday banking more convenient,” Namagembe said.
She added that Pride Bank’s initiative is aligned with its 2026–2030 digital strategy, which places increased emphasis on technology, accessibility and the expansion of digital banking services.
The partnership with Interswitch is also intended to provide customers with greater access to payment channels and reduce reliance on traditional cash-based transactions.
The development comes as financial institutions in Uganda continue to invest in digital solutions amid efforts to encourage electronic payments and broaden financial inclusion.
“The Pride Bank Verve Card gives customers access to Interswitch-enabled ATMs, Point of Sale terminals and supported online merchants. The cards are EMV compliant and incorporate Chip and PIN technology, strengthening security while providing customers with greater flexibility in how they transact,” she added.
The Head of Business at Pride Bank said the introduction of the two solutions reflects the Bank’s focus on creating practical improvements to the everyday banking experience.
“What we are launching is ultimately about giving our customers more choice. Through Quickteller, we are taking selected banking services closer to the customer, while the Pride Bank Verve Card connects them to a wider transaction network.
Together, these solutions reduce some of the barriers associated with distance and access and allow our customers to bank in ways that better respond to their everyday realities,” he explained.
The collaboration with Interswitch brings together Pride Bank’s banking infrastructure and Interswitch’s payments technology, creating opportunities to extend digital financial services to a wider customer base.
According to Interswitch, through Quickteller Agency Banking, they are extending Pride Bank services into communities and trading centers through a very wide network of agents across the country.
They add that it’s an opportunity for the businesses within the communities they serve or existing shop owners to be part of the agency banking ecosystem, with the opportunity to earn additional commission and attract more activity to their businesses.
“Literally, we are bringing Pride Bank closer to our customers; we are also creating opportunities for local enterprises to participate in delivering financial services within their communities.”
As Uganda’s financial sector continues its shift towards digital payments, banks and payment service providers are increasingly looking at partnerships that can expand access while making transactions faster and more convenient for customers.
The Pride Bank–Interswitch partnership is expected to form part of that broader shift, with further implementation of the initiative likely to determine its reach and impact on customers.
