PostBank Uganda is set to take on a new identity as Pearl Bank Uganda Limited, marking a significant milestone in its journey of development and growth.
The announcement was made during the bank’s Annual General Meeting held at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development offices in Kampala.
The rebrand, which is pending approval from the Bank of Uganda, was endorsed by the bank’s shareholders as part of a broader strategy to reposition the institution for greater impact in the financial sector both in Uganda and across borders.
Speaking during the AGM, Hon. Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, highlighted that the new name draws from Uganda’s unique identity as “The Pearl of Africa”, a phrase made famous by Sir Winston Churchill.
He said, “We shareholders of Postbank have approved the rebrand of the bank to a name that evokes a sense of pride in being Ugandan, a name that symbolises purity, wisdom, wealth, status, and prosperity.”
The move is aimed at strengthening the bank’s appeal to strategic partners and high-value depositors, enhancing its ability to scale up lending to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the agriculture sector, both key drivers of Uganda’s economy.
Julius Kakeeto, the Managing Director of PostBank Uganda, noted that the rebrand is aligned with the bank’s vision to become a leading Indigenous commercial bank.
“Rebranding enables the bank to attract strategic partners and high-value deposit customers, which will, in turn, help us to continue supporting MSMEs and the agriculture value chain, growing productivity and incomes of Ugandans,” he said.
