The Makerere Innovation and Incubation Center (MIIC), in partnership with Afriventia Group, has officially unveiled Fintech Fridays Uganda Edition, a new platform designed to accelerate innovation, investment, and collaboration within Uganda's rapidly growing financial technology (fintech) ecosystem.

The initiative aims to bring together fintech startups, investors, regulators, financial institutions, development partners, policymakers, and technology experts to foster dialogue, showcase innovative solutions, and unlock investment opportunities that will drive Uganda's digital financial transformation.

Speaking at the launch held at Four Points by Sheraton on Friday, organisers described Fintech Fridays Uganda Edition as a strategic platform that will bridge the gap between innovators and investors while promoting knowledge sharing and partnerships that support sustainable growth within the fintech sector.

The initiative comes at a time when Uganda's digital economy is expanding rapidly, driven by increased smartphone penetration, mobile money adoption, digital payments, and financial inclusion.

Diana Nannono Mugagga, Head of the Private Sector Development Unit, MoFPED, Board Member, MIIC noted that creating a regular forum for engagement will help position Uganda as a competitive fintech destination in the region.

"Fintech innovation has the potential to transform access to financial services, empower entrepreneurs, create jobs, and drive inclusive economic growth. By connecting innovators with investors and key ecosystem players, we are creating opportunities that will shape the future of digital finance in Uganda," Nannono stated.

Makerere Innovation and Incubation Center reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing technology-driven startups by providing mentorship, research support, business development services, and market linkages that enable entrepreneurs to scale innovative solutions.

Afriventia Group noted that investment-ready fintech businesses require more than capital; they also need strategic partnerships, regulatory engagement, and access to industry networks capable of accelerating growth across African markets.

The Fintech Fridays Uganda Edition will feature panel discussions, startup pitch sessions, investor engagements, networking opportunities, product demonstrations, and conversations on emerging trends including digital payments, artificial intelligence, blockchain technologies, cybersecurity, financial inclusion, regulatory innovation, and digital lending.

Industry stakeholders welcomed the initiative, noting that Uganda possesses significant potential to become a regional fintech hub due to its youthful population, growing digital infrastructure, vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, and increasing adoption of technology-enabled financial services.

The launch aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Uganda's innovation ecosystem and support startups capable of developing home-grown digital solutions that address challenges in financial access, business financing, cross-border payments, and enterprise growth.
