Café PAP marks 20 years of existence

When the late Jolly Ngabirano opened a café on Parliament Avenue in Kampala in 2004, very few Ugandans had an idea of how to operate such an enterprise. No one could imagine that a woman would usher coffee consumption into the lifestyle of many in Kampala.

Twenty later, Ngabirano's dream has become a reality.

Tuesday, April 23, was a thanksgiving day for Café PAP as it celebrated its 20th year in the café business. 

 At the function, they rewarded their loyal customers.

Among the goodies, they gifted their customers were a fully-paid night for a couple at Ihambo Lakeside Safaris Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park, branded café PAP cups, and a buffet coupon.

The Rev. Canon John Senyonyi, a former Uganda Christian University vice-chancellor,  who was the chief guest and a loyal customer, applauded the services at Café PAP, saying they are unique and they warmly receive clients.

“I hold fond memories of two particular experiences in café, enjoying the coffee cup and also my children loving the English Breakfast and ever since I came to café PAP in 201 0as a customer, I have never looked back," he said.

Senyonyi said whenever his children were about to go to school, he would bring them to Café PAP for a meal.

Abraham Ngabiirwe, the director of Café PAP, said they have been driven and inspired by the longevity of multinational cafes such as Starbucks, hence influencing them to stay in business despite the COVID-19 challenges that were a big threat to the business.

Philippa Itabaza, a staff member, thanked all those who have been part of their journey.

“We extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support, encouragement, and camaraderie,” said Philippa.

In between the celebrations, Café PAP staff entertained guests with a live band session of worship and praise.

There was also cake cutting to make 20 years before all guests were treated to a lunch meal.
