Bahati tours Uganda’s first egg processing factory

WAKISO - State Minister for Industry David Bahati on Thursday (August 13) visited Pristine Foods Limited in Kamuli A Village, Kireka, Kira Municipality, to assess the country’s only dedicated egg and baby food processing plant.
The visit forms part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives’ response to a presidential directive from the 4th Cabinet Meeting on July 20, 2026. The President called on the ministry to develop and strengthen the egg and baby food industry.
“The factory's innovations point to the wider opportunities available in Uganda's poultry and food-processing sectors. Rather than selling eggs only as a raw agricultural product, processors can create products with longer shelf life, higher value and wider markets,” Bahati said.

Pristine Foods, founded in 2015 with commercial production starting in July 2019, turns fresh eggs from farmers mainly in central Uganda into pasteurised liquid egg, whole egg powder, mayonnaise and egg-enhanced porridge flour.
Joel Guma, managing director at Pristine, said the plant now handles nearly 15,000 trays of eggs a week and sells close to 17 tonnes of finished products.
It sources from 100 to 150 active farmers, accepting deliveries as small as 50 trays, and has trained around 1,000 poultry farmers with support from European Union programmes.
