Spanning for two decades, the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), Uganda is one of the largest contributors of taxes in Uganda. Having invested over $30b for that period, member businesses have created jobs and employed over 40,000 Ugandans.

This was revealed by John Brittel, the managing director of Side B Group during the chamber’s recent   Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place at Sheraton Hotel Kampala.

Brittel stated that the chamber boasts of 85% of her members being multinational corporations and 15% small and medium enterprises.

“AMCHAM is proud to state that 3.5% of Uganda’s  Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is made possible by the members through their faithful remission of taxes hence leading to the country’s development,” Brittel who is also a board chamber of the chamber said.

Besides, Brittle stressed the fact that   the chamber is always at the helm of driving public-private dialogue on business sustainability.  By engaging the government, Brittle said businesses would be able to enjoy favourable policies coupled with a regulatory environment for their growth.

On the other hand, Meg Hilbert Jaquay, the President of AMCHAM appealed to members and guests to have succession plans for their business.

“Whether you are a seasoned entrepreneur, a family business owner, or a leader in the corporate world, the importance of succession planning cannot be overstated,” Jaquay remarked. “It is not merely a prudent strategy but a critical component for the sustainability, growth, and resilience of our enterprises in the broader society.”
