The top four golfers from this year’s Kenya Day Golf Tournament will win themselves an all-expense paid trip to next year’s Magical Kenya Golf Open courtesy of KCB Bank who are part of this year’s sponsors.

This will be part of their sh20m contribution to this year’s tournament that is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, at the Uganda Golf Club, Kitante.

Diana Komukama Ssempebwa, the Head of Marketing and Communication for the bank unveiled the package during a press conference at Kitante on Wednesday. This was in addition to Equity Bank’s sh15m to the same event that will headline this year’s this year’s Jamhuri Day (Kenya Independence Day) celebrations. Kenya’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on December 12 but in Uganda, a series of activities are held as part of ‘Kenya Week’ and the celebrations.

Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda George Owinow said some of the other activities this year include the Diaspora and an environment conservation day that will involve the planting of trees on Friday in Mabira forest specifically at the Busoga College Mwiri, aimed at restocking the Mabira Forest and a thanks-giving activity in Entebbe on Sunday on top of a CSR campaign.

He noted that the Kenyans living in Uganda comprise the highest number of Kenyans in the Diaspora which is a good thing for the integration of East Africa.

The one-day tournament has also attracted several other sponsors in Uganda with Kenyan roots including Kenya Airways, UAP Old Mutual, CIC Insurance, Kenya Ports Authority, and Case Medical Services among others. Kenya Airways, represented by the Country Manager Kenneth Narisha Kenei will also provide air tickets to some of the top golfers to destinations in East Africa.

Uganda Golf Club Captain Emmanuel Wamala said they expect close to 200 golfers in the event that will be played under the medal format.

“It is an exciting tournament and there are many goodies to win. We encourage all those golfers that can come and take part and enjoy with the high commissioner,” Wamala stated.
