Ugandans to join Kenya Independence Day celebrations with golf tournament

Golfers in Uganda will join the Kenyan community as they celebrate their 58th Independence anniversary (Jamhuri Day) on December 12; with a golf tournament at the Uganda Golf Club on Friday.

The event to be played in conformity with the prevailing covid-19 protocols will attract close to 150 players and will be the key activity during the ‘Kenya week’ that starts on December 6.

The outstanding performers will also stand a chance to win different goodies as well different packages on offer by the array of sponsors that have come up to support the event.

Addressing a press conference at Kitante on Monday the Kenya Deputy Head of Mission Kennedy Mokaya said the tournament will bring together key leaders in government, the Diplomatic and business communities as well as other golfing enthusiasts.

“It is also an appreciation of the political, economic, sports, and cultural ties of the people of East Africa as well as the resilience of business. Indeed, the event is a platform to bond, appreciate and learn from each other’s strengths,” Mokaya stated.

He acknowledged the generous support of various partners of Kenyan and non-Kenyan corporate companies doing business in Uganda that have bankrolled the event.

These were represented by Kenneth Narisha (Commercial Manager Kenya Airways), Daniel Kang’u (General Manager Kampala Serena), Judy Nadekya (Tusker Malt Lager), Nathan Atuhaire (Equity Bank), Diana Komukama (KCB Bank), Jezan Mohamed (Kenya Ports Authority), Allen Ssempa (Pepsi), Dan Asiimwe (Chloride Exide), and Caroline Owomuhangi (UAP Old Mutual).

KCB Bank offered sh66m, while NCBA Bank chipped in with sh10m while Pepsi and Tusker Malt will ensure golfers are refreshed on and off the course.

The 2019 event when it was last held was won by Mark Namanya and Brenda Maraka in the men and ladies categories, who will be eager to defend their titles at the par-72 course.
