The 5th edition of the Annual Insurance Week, organised by the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and partners, has been launched with the call for Ugandans to attend and learn the relevance of taking up respective insurance policies.

The launch, officiated by the IRA CEO, Al Hajji Ibrahim Lubega Kaddunabbi, was held today (on Tuesday) at the Insurance Towers in Kampala and attended by partners and sponsors.

According to Kaddunabbi, the week provides a platform for the industry to engage with the public, deepen their understanding and appreciation of insurance, showcase industry products and innovations, address consumer complaints in real time, and facilitate meaningful dialogue between providers and the public.

This year’s activities will run from March 19 to March 26, 2026, culminating in the Annual Insurance Innovation Awards on March 27, 2026, under the theme: “Future Eri Ku Sure Ne Insure”.

“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to expand access to insurance services both nationwide and worldwide, but also provides a platform for the industry to engage with the public, deepen their understanding and appreciation of insurance and showcase industry products and innovations which address consumer complaints,” Kaddunabbi said.

Unlike the previous editions, this year there will be a complaints desk to address any concerns in real time. The week will also run concurrently at the IRA regional centres in Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu.

“This is an opportunity to exchange ideas on what is happening and what can be done better, but also help to ensure insurance is accessible and trusted to all Ugandans.”

He urged members of the public to attend the insurance week, where they fully engage with licensed players and key financial players, as one of the ways to acquire knowledge about insurance.

“We deliberately extended the schedule to include a full weekend, to give the public more time to engage meaningfully with licensed industry players and key financial stakeholders to understand insurance and other financial solutions, and access essential services.”

Jonan Kisakye, the chief executive officer of the Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) commended IRA for commitment and consistency in organising the insurance week that has created an opportunity that brings the regulator, insurance players and members of the public under one space to talk about the sector and how to deal with the challenges in there.
