Vision Group board chairperson Dr Edward Damulira Sengonzi has revealed ambitious plans to boost company revenues and profitability.

The chairperson, who recently took the reins from outgoing chairperson Patrick Ayota, says this will be through aggressive marketing and strategic business sourcing to utilise the newly acquired company machinery.

“I want to commend my predecessor, Ayota, for the new investments he initiated, like buying a Komori digital printing machine, which shall improve company efficiency and give it a competitive edge in East Africa,” Sengonzi, who is also the finance ministry undersecretary, says.

Ayota is the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) managing director.

Sengonzi was on February 18, 2026, speaking during Ayota's farewell party, in his capacity as Vision Group board chairperson, at Protea Hotel Marriott in Kampala city.

He said Vision Group needs to reap from new business investment strategies if it is to absorb the COVID-19 pandemic shocks that left the company affected.

“[The] Namanve factory is a few months away from full operations, and I will support management to meet contractors looking to support our new projects for Vision Group to start lucrative business soon,” Sengonzi said.

“I promise to do aggressive marketing for more business opportunities to list the revenue boost for the company, which has been struggling to expand and integrate in the new digital markets which rely heavily on new technologies,” he pledged.

Sengonzi, a seasoned economist with over 26 years of experience, brings a wealth of experience to the Uganda Securities Exchange-listed company.

He emphasised the need for the company to innovate new revenue streams, including media agency services, courier operations, and outdoor advertising.

The company has already invested heavily in digital innovation, including the launch of its Vision Digital Experience App and e-paper. It has also expanded its business portfolio to include ventures such as Vision Printing, Vision Courier, and Blend Advertising Agency, which are already taking deep roots in the economy.

Vision Group managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Don Wanyama said the company is focused on expanding its commercial printing and packaging capabilities, with a new factory in the Namanve Industrial Park set to start production soon.

The company is also exploring new revenue streams, including digital billboards and major social events, he added.

Despite the challenges, Vision Group remains a dominant player in the Ugandan media market, with a 51% market share and strong brands such as New Vision and Bukedde.

“I want in a special way commend the work done by Ayota with whom I worked for four years as a mentor and a colleague who offered key insights and guidance.”

Wanyama also praised outgoing non-executive director Robinah Kaitiritimba for her dedication to uplifting staff welfare under her stewardship.

“Kaitiritimba has been a powerful advocate of staff welfare through the human resource department at Vision Group. She initiated non-salary interventions which helped us to improve working conditions for our staff when Covid 19 disrupted our operations,” he observed.

Deputy managing director and company secretary Gervase Ndyanabo asked members to commit to the strategy and direction of the company, which he said had been shaped by a long-standing tradition since 1986.

“We have the tradition to honour those who have served Vision Group diligently on our board, and we have always been replacing them with equally valued members to meet our objectives,” he noted.
