Former National Pool Open women's champion Rita Nimusima put up a spirited fight to win the Women’s Day Pool championship.

The tournament held in Kasanga attracted 40 female pool players including all the elites, Jacinta Kajubi, Ankar Shiela, and Victoria Namuyanja.

Nimusiima beat Amina Nganda 4-1 in the final.

Nimusiima said every time she starts the season with a victory, she ends it with victory, and she will ensure that she keeps the record.

“This win is a motivation in the journey to my dream this year, which is winning the Pool Open Car, and I will work for it,” Nimusiima said.

"I know it is not going to be easy because all these women are targeting the same car, but I am prepared for the challenge because the car I won in 2018 has become old, and I want a new one," she said.

However, five-time pool player of the year, Rashida Mutesi, who lost to her sister Lukia Naiga in the round of 32, vowed to fight back in the next competitions.

“It was a bad day for me that I lost before the quarterfinal, but it is just the beginning of the year, I will wait for the next competitions,” the soft-speaking athlete noted.

The Women’s Day pool tournament is one of the many tournaments including the Pool Queen and the national league that the Pool Association of Uganda uses to select national team players and also seed players.
