Buganda Kingdom premier (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has warned Baganda against those who want to divide them for selfish reasons.
He issued the warning on Tuesday (May 14) while receiving the shillings 35 million voluntary donations of Oluwalo Lwaffe (our duty) from the Kabaka’s subjects living in Kyadondo, Buddu, and Bulemeezi counties.
This is according to the Buganda Kingdom’s official X account.
The kingdom’s statement in Luganda noted that in the 20th Century, wars caused divisions within some people of Buganda.
He, however, said that Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was visionary and adopted a course of policy of uniting the people in his reign. Still, unfortunately, some want to divide them for selfish reasons.
In April last year, the Kabaka called for unity among his subjects during his 68th birthday celebrations at his main palace in Bulange, Mengo.
“Togetherness is the foundation of our victory and I appeal to you to carry on with this spirit. This is evident in the fight against HIV/AIDs by encouraging our people to remain safe, test, and seek medical care,” he said.
“We appreciate our people for the love, obedience, togetherness, and listening to our voice every day to remain steadfast and focused…this is done by remaining focused or not relenting in any way,” the Kabaka added.
