Although Coffee remains Uganda’s major income earner, the Government continues to take advantage of available opportunities to secure more markets.
This time round, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is to present Uganda’s specialty coffee, mainly from Elgon and Rwenzori regions, to the specialised coffee market in Belgium during a major Coffee Promotion Campaign at Europe's Premier Specialty Coffee Event in Brussels.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, June 20, 2026, by Margret Kafeero, the head of Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the statement, the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Brussels, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, is set to take advantage of the World Coffee Day celebrations, celebrated from June 25 to 27 at the Brussels Expo.
The World of Coffee celebrations organised by the Specialty Coffee Association are the largest specialty coffee trade event in Europe that brings together roasters, producers, traders, baristas, and coffee enthusiasts from across the globe.
This year’s edition which will be held in the heart of the European capital (Brussels) presents a strategic opportunity for Uganda to engage directly with key decision-makers in one of the world’s most influential coffee markets.
What Uganda will show at the expo?
According to the organisers, Uganda’s specialty coffee comes from the specialty coffee producing zones of the slopes of Mt Elgon and Rwenzori mountains in addition to West Nile, and some Robusta coffee from the central parts of Uganda.
Additional coffee marketing activities that will take place during the expo, include live cupping sessions and tasting led by Uganda’s award-winning baristas, unique coffee processing and sustainability practices, networking opportunities with Ugandan coffee exporters, cooperatives, and producers and then cultural experiences highlighting Uganda’s rich coffee heritage and the story behind every cup.
Status of Uganda’s coffee sector
According to the agriculture ministry, Uganda exported 8.4 million 60-kilogramme bags of coffee valued at $2.4 billion at the end of 2025, a 47% increase in volume and 77% increase in value compared to the previous year of 2024.
