Vision Group’s consistent and accurate reporting on the agriculture sector paid off on July 25, 2025, after it was voted the best media house for sustained coverage of the sector.
The recognition was announced during the third edition of the Annual Agriculture Awards, held at the Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala.
It followed a competitive online voting process in which Vision Group’s Harvest Money pull-out, a weekly feature in New Vision newspaper dedicated to agriculture reporting, emerged as the best.
The awards ceremony was organised by Farmwise Communications in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Bank of Uganda, Heifer International, National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), and the Agriculture Sector Network, among others.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of the Annual Agriculture Awards, Grace Musimami, said the initiative was established four years ago to recognise key players for their contributions to the sector, while also offering a platform for networking and further development.
In addition, Vision Group journalists were recognised for their consistent coverage of the agriculture sector. Other honourees included Kilimo Trust, a non-governmental organisation that has supported over 700,000 smallholder farmers to earn from agriculture.
Other award recipients included financial institutions, extension service providers, seed companies, and others.
Individuals recognised included Dr David Kabanda of the Centre for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT), acknowledged as a food systems champion.
He was recognised for his efforts to protect schoolchildren from unhealthy food products, such as those containing saturated fats and added sweeteners, through legal frameworks being developed by his team.
Other recognised individuals included researchers such as Dr Fred Kabi, who is involved in one of the key projects on the anti-tick vaccine, among others, at the National Agricultural Research Organisation.
