The Harvest Money Expo, which opened its gates to farming enthusiasts on February 27 and closed on March 1, successfully featured an array of exhibitors in agriculture and its supporting sectors.
One of the supporting sectors present at the expo was sustainability, showcasing eco-friendly innovations that reduce excessive energy use.
Brian Obwona, the sales executive at Eco Stove, described the eco-stove as one that uses volcanic stones.
“We provide volcanic stones that can be used for two years, powered by solar energy. To keep the stones burning, oxygen is blown through them by a solar-powered fan,” he said.
Obwona added that another advantage of using this stove and the volcanic stones is that they take about two hours to cool down after switching off.
“Some people switch off the stove once it has heated up and continue cooking because it retains heat longer than an ordinary charcoal stove,” he explained. The eco stoves range from sh450,000 to sh1.4m.
He added that since the stones last for two years, a household that spends sh90,000 on a sack of charcoal each month could instead purchase a bag of volcanic stones at sh50,000.
He noted that by reducing spending on fuel, households can have more disposable income.
