Coffee exporters from Uganda are taking part in Turkey’s premier specialty coffee expo, which is showcasing world-class Arabica and Robusta coffee at COFFEX Istanbul 2025.

From this expo, the government hopes to clinch investment deals worth more than $1.2 million (approximately sh4.38 billion)—a target that was
set for last year’s similar expo.

The 7th edition of the expo, in which four coffee exporting companies from Uganda are participating, has attracted professionals in the coffee sector, roasters, policymakers, and enthusiasts from coffee trading companies and countries.

Ugandan coffee exporters taking part in the expo include Bowi Logistics, Hinga Coffee, Tuongeye Coffee and Arabku Export Trading Ltd.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), this is the second time within the same month that Uganda is participating in international coffee expos—not only to showcase its coffee but also to attract investments into the country’s coffee sector.

In a statement issued by MAAIF on Monday, May 12, Ugandans will be showcasing their world-class Arabica and Robusta coffee at the COFFEX expo.

“As the event enters its 7th edition, Uganda's presence reaffirms its commitment to expanding market access and fostering stronger trade relations with Türkiye’s growing specialty coffee sector,” according to MAAIF.

Reviving coffee trade between Uganda and Türkiye

According to MAAIF, despite a decline in Uganda’s coffee exports to Türkiye in the 2023/2024 financial year, which saw earnings drop to $3.34 million, Uganda’s coffee industry has demonstrated resilience and adaptability.

In the first nine months of the 2024/2025 financial year, coffee export revenues have so far reached $5.51 million—a notable increase driven by enhanced promotional efforts and direct engagement with Turkish buyers.

The increase, according to the Ugandan Embassy in Türkiye, is attributed to strategic diplomatic efforts that have ensured Turkish importers work directly with Ugandan coffee producers rather than intermediaries.

Nelson Kasigaire, the counsellor at the Ugandan Embassy, added that such initiatives have resulted in Turkish firms establishing operations in Uganda, gaining firsthand experience in sourcing and processing Ugandan coffee.

Highlights at the expo

At the expo, Uganda's exhibition effectively featured three cupping sessions, offering guests a cup-tasting experience of Uganda’s coffee to evaluate its distinct characteristics.

A two-hour networking platform was also conducted, where exporters engaged Turkish coffee buyers, trade representatives, and importers.

There were also educational discussions focusing on sustainable coffee farming practices, value addition, and Uganda’s commitment to quality assurance in specialty coffee, among others, according to MAAIF.
