KAMPALA - Moderately wet conditions to prevail over the entire country during the forecast period, according to the second dekad, meaning 10 days (11th to 20th) of July 2025 rainfall.
The 10-weather update cited Karenga, Kaabong, Kotido, Napak, Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Amudat, Lamwo, Kitgum, parts of Katakwi, and Kumi as districts where exceptional rainfall events are expected.
“The mean daily temperatures indicate that relatively cool conditions are expected to prevail over the country. The temperatures ranging from 20 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees Celsius are likely to be experienced over the northern and Eastern parts of the country that include: West Nile, Lango, Acholi, Teso and northern parts of Bukedi and Bunyoro sub-regions. The remaining areas of southern and parts of Karamoja are expected to experience a temperature below 20 degrees Celsius,” stated the weather update.
The lowest temperature conditions, however, are predicted in the highland areas of Kigezi, Rwenzori and Elgon, ranging from 8 degrees Celsius to 16 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
Overall, normal heat levels are expected over most parts of the country. However, some isolated areas north and south of Lake Albert and areas around Kasese and Bukedi are likely to experience isolated heat fatigue with prolonged exposure, according to the weather update.
The predicted moderate rainfall over most parts of the country is likely to trigger potential impacts that include: floods, water logging, contamination of water sources due to increased runoff, upsurge of malaria, foggy and hazy conditions.
Advisories
• With such anticipated rains over most parts of the country, this will offer conducive conditions for pasture growth and availability of water in the cattle corridor for livestock.
• The communities, particularly in the Karamoja subregion, are advised to put in place water storage facilities for harvesting rainwater to use during periods when rains may be scarce.
• Motorists are advised to drive with caution whenever foggy and hazy conditions prevail.
Pruning of tree cops should be undertaken, as well as mulching, which is critical for moisture conservation.
• Farmers are encouraged to practice supplementary irrigation for those who would like to continue with farming activities such as vegetable growing during dry period.
• Communities are encouraged to carry out proper post-harvest handling to avoid losses.
Monitor and report any emergence of crop pests, animal parasites, and plant diseases to technical staff at the sub-county and district.
