Residents of Agirigiroi in Kapir Sub-county, Ngora District, have been ordered to stop cultivating crops in wetlands following recurring conflicts between crop farmers and cattle keepers.
The directive was issued by Ngora Resident District Commissioner Josephine Omara during a mediation meeting after repeated disputes over wetland use.
Omara gave farmers until 30 December 2026 to harvest and remove crops from the wetland, urging all parties to respect the resolutions reached to prevent further violence.
Some of the farmers accused of cultivating in the wetland apologised and pledged to comply with the directive.
Meanwhile, community members welcomed the intervention, saying proper enforcement of wetland protection measures will help restore peace and conserve the environment.
