Amid the glitz and glamour of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards (GCFA) that happened on March 6, 2024 in California, US, a new era of conscious entertainment was witnessed as nine young leaders emerged as beacons of environmental sustainability.

At this star-studded event, Ugandan fashion model and environmentalist Judith Heard shone brightly. She stole the spotlight in a striking gown by Ugandan designer Abbasi Kaijuka of Kai’s Divo Collection.

Judith's gown,  crafted from recycled materials like net, Kikoyi, and kitengi, symbolised the pressing need for repurposing materials in the fashion industry.

Her elegance and sophistication proved that sustainability and style are not mutually exclusive, earning her the honor of being recognised as the epitome of eco-conscious fashion by the GCFA.

The awards are a platform that champions intersectional positive change makers worldwide. The event honoured Judith  and other global change icons, demonstrating a commitment to driving social and environmental justice.

A day before the awards, Eco-Age, led by chair lady Livia Firth, hosted the GCFA Sharing the Table cocktail event at Juniper Gardens. It was here that Judith and other influential figures convened to share their visions for a better world.

Judith passionately called upon fashion designers to embrace recycling and understand the interconnectedness of environmental action with civil rights, equality, and feminism.

Judith's dedication to sustainability extends beyond the fashion industry. Her '50 Million Trees for Africa' campaign advocates not just for planting trees, but for their long-term care and monitoring, involving collaboration with governments, NGOs, and communities. Her efforts have resonated with a diverse audience, igniting a collective push towards afforestation and a greener future.

Celebrities and luminaries like Donatella Versace, Chrissy Teigen, and John Legend graced the event, co-chaired by icons like Helen Hunt and Cate Blanchett.

Together, they celebrated individuals and organizations driving social and environmental justice.

The GCFA served as a rallying cry for a more sustainable and equitable entertainment industry, with Judith Heard leading the charge towards a brighter tomorrow.
