The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) is expected to present a report on the food security situation in Teso and other affected parts of the country during a cabinet meeting today, Monday, July 13, 2026, as concerns mount over worsening crop failure caused by prolonged dry conditions.

Prepared by senior officials at the OPM, the report outlines the declining food production in affected regions and proposes interventions aimed at preventing food shortages and protecting vulnerable communities from a potential humanitarian crisis.

State Minister for Teso Affairs Dr Kenneth Clement Ongalo Obote said the Cabinet discussion comes at a critical time when staple food crops such as cassava and sweet potatoes are drying up across the sub-region.

According to the minister, urgent government intervention is needed to support affected households and avert a worsening food security situation.

The Cabinet discussion follows growing calls from leaders in Teso for immediate government action.

Former State Minister for Works Musa Ecweru, who is also the National Resistance Movement chairperson for Amuria District, recently warned that the prolonged dry spell has left thousands of farming households facing severe crop failure.

Ecweru said reports from farmers and agricultural production officials indicate that crop failure has become widespread across the Teso sub-region, raising fears of food shortages if urgent interventions are delayed.

The outcome of Monday's Cabinet meeting is expected to guide the Government's response to the unfolding food security challenges in Teso and other affected areas.
