The 2025 Uganda’s Best Farmers have been officially flagged off today (Thursday, May 20) for a learning tour to the Netherlands. This was during an event held at dfcu Bank rooftop.

The 13 farmers will explore modern agricultural systems, value addition practices, and potential international partnerships during the one-week (30 May - 06 June) exposure visit.

Vision Group CEO Don Wanyama said 134 farmers have been rewarded from across the country.

"The competition has so far rewarded 134 Best Farmers from across the country. Out of these, 121 have already travelled to the Netherlands. This 2025 cohort will bring the total number of farmers who have travelled to 134.”

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Uganda, Frederieke Quispel, thanked sponsors for working with them for all these years and wished the farmers a safe journey to the Netherlands.

"Enjoy the Netherlands. It’s going to be enjoyable. Enjoy it, learn, come back and share the knowledge that you have picked up there, and make sure Uganda becomes among the biggest exporters.”

Dr Geoffrey Mukama, the Technical Sales Officer, Koudijs, asked the farmers to go with a mindset of learning in the Netherlands.

“We want to see the practical application of what farmers learn. As we move to the Netherlands, let us go with a mindset of learning and return ready to implement and transform our farms. The entire land of the Netherlands can fit into Uganda’s Lake Victoria, yet they are the second-largest agricultural producer in the world. This shows what is possible with knowledge, innovation, and efficiency.”

Annette Kiconco, the DFCU Bank Chief Retail Banking Officer, said the trip to the Netherlands is not a holiday; it is an investment in exploration, knowledge and transformation.

"Learn, observe and return with insights needed to scale up Uganda's agricultural competitiveness," she added.
