UG@60: How the kanzu has become a national dress

Kabaka Ssuuna, who reigned in Buganda between 1832 and 1856, was the first to wear the kanzu. By this, it was instituted as the formal wear of all Baganda men.

The kanzu is a traditional outfit for men in many parts of Uganda. 

This ankle-length tunic, usually white or cream, was adopted by the Baganda from Arab traders in the 19th century.
