Police in Omoro District have launched a homicide investigation after two female students of Lux Senior Secondary School in Labora sub-county were killed in a suspected arson attack on the school dormitory.
The gruesome incident, which occurred during the night of April 17, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked a broader national conversation about the increasing wave of violence and revenge attacks gripping the country.
According to Aswa Region Police spokesperson David Mudong, unknown assailants are believed to have deliberately set fire to the girls’ hostel while the students were asleep. The bodies of the two juvenile victims, whose identities have been withheld for legal and ethical reasons, were recovered from the scene.
Mudong confirmed that three suspects, including the school’s deputy director, are currently in custody to assist with investigations. Other suspects remain at large.
“Our homicide team at Omoro Central Police Station is working around the clock to establish the circumstances that led to this tragic incident,” Mudong stated. “While we deeply regret this loss of life, we call upon the bereaved families and the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed to its logical conclusion.”
He also cautioned the public against incitement and misuse of social media, warning that this could interfere with the investigation or incite further violence.
“This is a time for reflection, not division,” Mudong added. “We urge the public to resist circulating inflammatory content that could trigger tribal tensions or vigilantism.”
