UCU lecturer crashed by cement truck at Nkumba

Okiot, who was going to court on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, died after a cement truck belonging to Seyani Company Ltd lost control at the Nkumba traffic lights junction and overturned, crushing him in his car.

Raphael Okiot, a lawyer, who was a lecturer at Uganda Christian University has died in an early morning crash on Entebbe Road.

Okiot, who was going to court on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, died after a cement truck belonging to Seyani Company Ltd lost control at the Nkumba traffic lights junction and overturned, crushing him in his car.

Both vehicles were heading to Entebbe at the time of his death. 

His wife, Faith Irene Kwagala, the magistrate grade one Kyenjojo, also announced her husband’s death and said the funeral arrangements would be communicated later.

A video of the crash captured on the Police surveillance camera showed the driver of a cement mixer truck UAN 836D trying to avoid hitting Okiot’s car a Mitsubishi registration number UBQ 371P and later ramming into the roadside barriers. He, however, failed causing the cement mixer truck to tip over and fall onto the vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses the Mitsubishi had only one passenger at the time of the crash.
