Businessman Mubarak Iguma, 33, has been formally charged in court for alleged personation and obtaining money by false pretence.

The development follows a joint operation led by the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) in Gulu city.

Reports reveal that Iguma, posing as a member of the MK Movement, allegedly deceived over 200 individuals in Elegu, extracting funds from unsuspecting victims, according to Police publicist Fred Enanga.

"Among those targeted were bodaboda riders, taxi operators, market vendors, salon and bar operators, all lured by promises of support supposedly facilitated by Gen. Muhoozi Kaneirugaba (Gen MK)," Enanga said while addressing journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru on Tuesday, April 2.

According to Enanga, Iguma's deceitful scheme involved issuing false statements while presenting himself as a legitimate representative of the MK Movement.

"Allegedly, he provided victims with fabricated documents, including membership cards and references to the movement's constitution, after collecting membership fees," Enanga said.

He added that efforts are underway to apprehend Iguma's alleged accomplice, Abdul Karim Matovu.

According to Enanga, authorities have commended the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and Gulu CID for their diligent efforts in uncovering the fraudulent activities.

Iguma has been formally charged before the Chief Magistrates Court in Gulu, marking a significant step towards justice for the victims affected by his fraudulent actions, according to Enanga.
