Mpuuga compares battles with Kyagulanyi to Cain and Abel

“The only difference is that we met some people as adults; we never grew up with them. So, we don’t know their way [of doing things]. We are just learning them and if God helps us to fully understand them, we shall move [with them],” Mpuuga said.

Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga has compared his ongoing wrangles with his National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, to the Biblical story of siblings Cain and Abel.

“I want to assure you that even above [NUP’s top leadership], where you hear the issues of Cain and Abel, we also have the intelligence to deal with them,” he said in Luganda, on Sunday, while delivering his message during the Easter mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral, Kitovu, Masaka City.

In the Book of Genesis story, Cain killed his brother Abel out of jealousy after the latter’s sacrifice to God was deemed superior.

“The only difference is that we met some people as adults; we never grew up with them. So, we don’t know their way [of doing things]. We are just learning them and if God helps us to fully understand them, we shall move [with them],” Mpuuga said.

He used his speech to purvey a message of optimism about resolving the disputes that are not only rocking the main Opposition party but also threatening to yield a splinter group and defections ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“Give us a chance, we shall deal with them. I want to once again pledge before you that I will do what I believe is right as your leader and I will not go on the streets announcing.

Leadership comes with responsibility challenges but the leadership without meditation disturbs sometimes,” he stated.

He implored the faithful to join them and keep praying for them and advising them.
Mpuuga was recently suspended from his position of deputy party president for the central region by Kyagulanyi over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

He, however, reacted by saying he understood Kyagulanyi was under siege and that he didn’t know how to help or support him.
