13 arrested over spate of violence in Apaa
At least 13 residents of Adjumani district have been arrested by security in connection with the spate of violence in Apaa township between February and March 2024.
Of the 13, five have been charged and later convicted of murder and are already serving their jail terms at Openzizi government prison in Adjumani.
Meanwhile, another four: Luke Tako, Joseph Edema Alex, Patrick Modi and Sunday Nyovi have been charged with arson and robbery and are expected to appear in court in Adjumani soon.
According to army Fourth Division spokesperson Capt. Hassan Kato Ahmad, on March 7, 2024, during their joint operation in Pakele sub-county, one of the suspects, David Mori Guma, 40, was found with 15 bows and arrows in Ageri Village, Itirikwa sub-county which he was allegedly mobilising, procuring and supplying to Madi youth.
Kato revealed that Guma also allegedly physically participated in the recent arson attacks and killing of some members of Acholi community living in Pakele.
These incidents happened between February 18 and 19, 2024, according to the spokesperson.
Kato added that they also arrested Charles Okoya aka Rwot from Apaa township over his alleged involvement in the recent revenge attacks on the Madi community on February 20 at Pakele.
He called upon the Apaa township residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the joint security teams.
