Kampala-Mityana road cut off after trailer overturns

Police has advised those travelling either to or from Jinja to instead use the Mukono-Katosi road or alternatively the Mukono-Kayunga Njeru road.

The Kampala-Mityana highway was on Monday, March 4, cut off after a trailer lost control due to brake failure overturned, and caught fire in the middle of the road.

Traffic and Safety Directorate Public Relations Officer Micheal Kananura said the Police in Mpigi, “had registered a single minor road traffic crash at Muduma in Jezza along Kampala-Mityana Road involving a trailer, lost control due to brake failure, overturned and caught fire in the middle of the road completely cutting off the road.”

He further explained, “This is, therefore, to inform the general public to be patient as our teams of Traffic Police, fire brigade and the area police are working hard to ensure the removal of the wreckage and secure the highway for road users to pass".

The accident comes a day after Jinja Road was on the afternoon of Sunday, March 3, 2024, cut off following a crash involving two trucks at Namagunga.

This prompted the Police to advise those travelling either to or from Jinja to instead use the Mukono-Katosi road or alternatively the Mukono-Kayunga Njeru road.
