Mother, two daughters arrested over theft of offertory

Police in Oyam district have arrested three women over allegedly stealing offertory from Anyeke Catholic Parish on Tuesday night.

The suspects being held at Oyam Central Police Station are Justine Opio, Anna Ojok Apili and their mother only identified as Eunice, all residents of Akaidebe cell, Western Ward in Oyam town council.

Anyeke Catholic Parish priest Fr Moses Pascal Omara said they noticed the incident on Wednesday morning when they went to celebrate Mass and found the church door widely open with several property missing. 

According to Omara, the suspects allegedly broke the doors of the sacristy and stole an unspecified amount of cash which had been kept for two months, Holy Communion items including wine, as well as other church property.

He said during the investigation, a Police sniffer dog led Police officers to Justine Opio’s bedroom, where some of the church property were allegedly recovered, leading to their arrest.

Moses Arinda, the OC CID of Oyam district confirmed the arrest of the trio stating investigations into the matter are ongoing.
